Blue Cross Blue Shield on an insurance card does not tell admissions everything it needs to know about your benefits. Promises DFW accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Medicaid for primary substance use treatment. Admissions confirms which BCBS Medicaid product you have before checking eligibility and the approval required for care.
We serve adults 18+ at 400 Highland Dr, Lewisville, TX 75067, near Dallas-Fort Worth. BCBS Medicaid is separate from commercial BCBS Texas insurance. A coverage answer for an employer or other commercial policy cannot be applied to your Medicaid plan.
Identify your BCBS product before checking benefits
Have the current card or enrollment documents available when you call. Read the full product name along with your member ID. Admissions uses that information to confirm that the review concerns BCBS Medicaid and to identify the product’s substance use benefits.
If you have commercial insurance, visit our Blue Cross Blue Shield commercial coverage page. Both products may carry a familiar BCBS name, but each needs its own verification. Tell admissions if you are unsure which card is current or whether your coverage has recently changed.
A logo, an older benefits explanation or a general answer about BCBS is not enough to establish current coverage. The team checks the policy attached to your member information. You can ask admissions to explain which product it found before discussing treatment arrangements.
BCBS Medicaid is for substance use care at Promises DFW
Our BCBS Medicaid acceptance applies to addiction treatment only. Medicaid does not pay for primary mental health treatment at Promises DFW. If primary mental health care is what you need, call to discuss commercial coverage or other options with admissions.
Medical detox and residential addiction treatment are services available at the Lewisville campus. Your BCBS Medicaid plan may help pay for recommended care, depending on active eligibility, medical necessity and prior authorization. The plan must review the requested level of care; acceptance of the insurer does not establish approval.
PHP in Lewisville and virtual IOP for Texas residents may be options after an individual review. Admissions checks their benefits and authorization requirements separately when they are being considered. No level of care is promised under a BCBS Medicaid policy.
Information that helps us verify the right policy
- The current BCBS member card or enrollment record.
- The product name exactly as it appears in your documents.
- Your member ID and the identifying information needed for verification.
- A way to reach you with the results of the benefits check.
- Any notice about a coverage change, renewal or pending application.
Explain what kind of help you are looking for and whether you already have a question about detox or residential care. The clinical review helps determine what treatment to consider. If something on the card is unclear, ask the team to read it with you instead of choosing a product based on the name alone.
What happens during prior authorization
After identifying the policy, admissions checks the plan’s requirements for the proposed care. Prior authorization is the approval process for a treatment request when the plan requires it. BCBS reviews the information needed for its decision. The facility cannot determine the result in advance.
Ask admissions whether the review is complete, what remains pending and which care the request concerns. You should also ask whether further treatment would need another authorization. An approval for one service or set of dates does not answer every question about later care.
Arrange travel after speaking with admissions about the treatment review and admission instructions. An accepted policy, active coverage and an authorized service are separate questions. The team can explain where your review stands and help you understand the next action.
Who can qualify for adult Medicaid in Texas?
Some pregnant adults, some parents and caretaker relatives with very low income, people 65+ or with disabilities, and former foster care youth up to age 26 may qualify. Texas has not expanded Medicaid, so many adults without children are ineligible. Texas Health and Human Services determines eligibility.
Read the adult eligibility section in our Texas Medicaid plan guide. That page also lists other accepted Medicaid plans. If you need help preparing for a local admission, our Medicaid rehab guide for Dallas-Fort Worth covers the first call and travel to Lewisville.
Frequently asked questions
Does Promises DFW take Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Medicaid?
Yes, for primary substance use treatment. Admissions confirms your BCBS Medicaid product, checks whether benefits are active and reviews the plan’s authorization requirements.
Is this the same coverage as commercial BCBS Texas?
No. Commercial BCBS and BCBS Medicaid require different policy checks. Use the current member information so admissions can review the benefits that apply to you.
Will my BCBS Medicaid plan approve residential treatment?
That requires a review of your clinical needs, benefits and eligibility. Prior authorization determines whether the requested residential addiction treatment is approved under your plan.
What if I cannot identify the product on my card?
Contact admissions with the card or documents you have. The team can help confirm which BCBS Medicaid product needs verification and explain any information still needed.
Does a benefits check confirm every cost?
Ask what has been verified and whether any questions remain with the plan. Admissions reviews your individual benefits and possible member costs before you make treatment arrangements.
