Family Services

When someone close to you is dealing with addiction or mental health challenges, it can take a toll on everyone. At Promises DFW, we include families in the healing process with therapy and support programs built to restore trust and connection. If your loved one is currently in treatment, we encourage you to reach out to their primary therapist or case manager to learn more.

How we help families heal

We invite families to get involved as early as possible—often within the first 24 hours—because your support can make a real difference. From the very beginning, our team offers guidance and communication so you feel supported, informed, and included in the recovery journey.

Monthly family webinars

Families have the opportunity to join monthly webinars designed to support and educate those impacted by mental health and substance use. Each session will feature a member of our clinical leadership team sharing insights on topics such as boundaries, communication, co-regulation, and the stages of change. These webinars are an opportunity to strengthen connections, gain valuable tools, and feel supported throughout the recovery journey.

Why family involvement matters

Our family services combine education with support. You’ll have opportunities to attend virtual sessions and webinars that explain addiction, co-occurring mental health issues, and the process of recovery. These programs also connect you with other families going through similar experiences.

Family programming gives you a space to:

  • Understand how family dynamics may affect recovery
  • Learn ways to manage your own stress, fear, and anxiety
  • Support your loved one in treatment while also caring for yourself
  • Identify signs of relapse and how to respond
  • Build clear expectations and healthy boundaries
  • Improve communication skills
  • Learn how addiction and mental health conditions impact behavior

By taking part in family therapy, you may help improve treatment outcomes, reduce the chance of relapse, and strengthen your family as a whole.

Finding a therapist after treatment

If your loved one’s treatment team suggests continued family therapy after they leave Promises DFW, you may be unsure how to get started. Family work often continues beyond residential care. That might mean ongoing therapy with your loved one, or individual sessions for yourself to process what you’ve experienced.

Here are two resources we recommend for finding support:

You're part of their recovery too

Supporting someone through addiction or mental health recovery isn’t easy. You might be dealing with fear, guilt, confusion, or exhaustion. It’s important to know that your emotional health matters, too. At Promises DFW, we’re here to support your whole family—not just the person in treatment.
